Dhāraṇā 60 · The sky dissolved in the head
Contemplate all space as melted into the crown of the head, as pure sky-nature; everything then takes the form of Bhairava and enters the Reality of Light.
Space is the one thing you cannot get outside of — which makes it the perfect object for a contemplation whose goal is to end the outside altogether. Here the whole of it is gathered and dissolved into a single place: the crown of the head.
The method
Begin with the sky as it actually presents itself: vast, without edge, without parts. Then reverse the usual direction of attention. Instead of the head being a small object inside great space, contemplate all of that space — viyat sarvam — as līnaṃ mūrdhni, dissolved into the crown. Not compressed, which would make it small, but dissolved, the way salt dissolves: present everywhere in the water and locatable nowhere. The verse adds the manner: khatvena, as sheer sky-ness, voidness — space contemplated as nothing but its own openness, stripped of every content it seemed to contain.
Held there, the contemplation turns by itself. What was gathered into the head ceases to be in the head at all — the container was only ever a starting scaffold — and everything, says the verse, becomes bhairavākāra, Bhairava-formed, and enters tejas-tattva, the Reality of Light.
From void to lightतेजस्तत्त्व
The sequence is worth noticing: the practice passes through voidness and does not stop there. Emptiness in this tradition is a solvent, never a destination — what remains when space itself has been dissolved is not a deeper blank but luminosity, the bare shining that all along made even the void visible. The head is chosen as the vessel because the crown is where the tradition locates the opening beyond the body's ordinary circuit; what dissolves there does not fall back into it.
लीनं मूर्ध्नि वियत्सर्वं खत्वेन भावयेत् । तत्सर्वं भैरवाकारं तेजस्तत्त्वं समाविशेत् ॥ ८३ ॥
One should contemplate the whole void as dissolved in the head, as mere voidness (sky-nature); then that all, having the form of Bhairava, enters the Reality of Light.
समस्त आकाश (शून्य) को मूर्धा (मस्तक) में लीन हुआ, केवल शून्यता रूप में भावित करे; तब वह सब भैरवाकार होकर तेज-तत्त्व में समाविष्ट हो जाता है।
