Dhāraṇā 33 · The Śaiva Reality at Every Edge
By the process of the path, contemplate Śiva-tattva at all the boundaries of the universe, on every side — and the great awakening dawns.
The previous dhāraṇā walked the cosmic path upward until the mind dissolved. This verse turns the same equipment outward: go to the paryantas — the boundaries, the outermost edges of this entire universe, samantataḥ, on every side at once — and there contemplate tattvaṃ śaivam, the Śaiva reality. The fruit has its own name: mahodaya, the great dawning.
Thinking to the edgeपर्यन्त
Every mind carries a picture of the world, and every picture has a rim. This practice makes the rim the object. Send attention outward in one direction — past everything nameable, to where your sense of 'world' simply gives out — and ask what is there, where the universe stops. Then another direction, and another, until the inquiry runs to the limit on every side simultaneously. The verse prescribes doing this adhva-prakriyayā, by the method of the path — that is, using the graded ascent of the previous dhāraṇā as the vehicle, not leaping to the rim in fantasy but arriving at it level by level.
What is found at the edge is not a wall and not a beyond. A boundary of everything cannot be bounded by something further — so what stands at the limit can only be that which contains limits without having one. The verse names it: the Śaiva reality. The edge of the world is where the world visibly rests on what it is made of.
From the rim back to the centre
The strange grace of this dhāraṇā is that once Śiva has been found at every outermost point, the interior is quietly captured too — for what surrounds the whole on every side and grounds it can hardly be absent from the middle. The practitioner who has honestly done the work at the boundaries wakes to find the same reality standing wherever attention falls. That reversal, from farthest limit to total presence, is what mahodaya names: not a private flash but a dawn, which touches everything at once.

Contemplating, by the process of the cosmic path (adhvan), the Śaiva Reality everywhere, throughout all the boundaries of this entire universe, there comes the great awakening (mahodaya).
इस समस्त विश्व के समस्त पर्यन्त-भागों (सीमाओं) में, सब ओर, अध्व-प्रक्रिया के द्वारा शैव तत्त्व का ध्यान करने से महोदय (परम जागरण) होता है।
